About

Currently I am a graduate student and assistant at the University of Virginia in the Curry School of Education, focusing on Instructional Technology, within the STEM Education program. With a background in psychology, specifically, neuropsychology, the way that people learn has always been a fascination for me. I am intrigued by cognition and the ways in which people assimilate and digest new information and have published research in the neuropsychology field. Throughout my life I have maintained a passion for art, in particular, photography. Having most recently been a classroom teacher, I have been able to interweave my skills from psychology and art to help meet the needs of diverse students.

My need to be a constant learner has provided me many opportunities to find original and inventive ways to reach students and improve education through technology. I believe that the reach of technology and its ability to transform learning is infinite. I believe that all students have the ability to learn and that we, as educators, through the implementation of technology, must differentiate to find the means to reach each one, individually, and help them maximize their fullest learning potential.

In particular, I am interested in the use of virtual reality for education, digital media applications in education (digital video, storytelling, voice applications), photography, and the impact of these tools on memory (archival and retrieval) and learning. Recently, my interest has been sparked by social media applications and the countless implications they hold toward affecting change, both in K-12, and higher education. Furthermore, I am part of a team exploring affordances and limitations of augmented reality games in education.

I look forward to the opportunity to use my background to improve education through the study of technology. Further, I hope to realize my pursuits of designing and implementing new technologies that will improve the way education is delivered and ultimately widen the range of students' background knowledge to enhance their learning.

I hold Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees, both from the University of Virginia.
